| Notes |
This is an intriguing march by a talented Norwegian composer. The name is the
backward spelling HAMAR, a town in Norway. It is a traditional march, but is
handled in a non-traditional fashion. The scoring is unique and there are many
sudden dynamic changes. It is full of surprises, especially in the second
strain. The Trio contains a delightful piccolo-xylophone solo. This march
follows European traditions by closing with a return to the opening strain, and
ends with an unexpected timpani solo. In short, it is a standard work, with
many not-so-standard touches. It is both challenging and fun to play.
