The images of John Bromell Marshall that
appear on each library page are from the collections of the Disclaimer: Some of the music in our collection contains derogatory terms, images and ideas. These are not condoned by Marshall's Civic Band. They do represent the attitudes of a number of Americans at the times the songs were published. As such, it is hoped that the music in this collection can aid students of music, history and other disciplines to better understand popular American music from the 19th and early 20th centuries. |
Because of a lack of resources, Marshall's Civic Band does not lend music from its library holdings. We do not have the personnel necessary to pull and re-file music on a regular basis, nor do we have the financial resources to hire a librarian. In addition, because we consider our library to be an historically significant collection, we feel that allowing music to go out on loan would represent an unnecessary risk.
Our library holdings are available for historical research, however, by contacting the Washburn University Music Department in Topeka. All research must be done on-site and with prior arrangement of the WU Music Department. For information on hours and availability, contact:
