Notes |
"Flowers of Spain" is a magnificent example of the classic Spanish Paso doble. The original edition published by Editorial Musica Moderna did not include parts for low clarinets or bassoons, but did include an instrumentation similar to the modern concert band. The arranger-editor, John Edmondson, working from the original three-line "Conductor in Bb", a set of parts and a supberb recording by the University of Illinois Band under the direction of Harry Begian, has constructed this full score for modern symphonic band. Those few bands who may have performed this selection from the original published version will welcome this new edition which has clarified the many inconsistencies in articulations, dynamics and, in some cases, wrong notes. Take care that a comfortable and stately tempo is maintained, and strive for precise rhythmic vitality. The dynamic level should never become so heavy that any part is obscured. |
