All handwritten manuscript. May be an original arrangement. John Wall Calcott was born on Nov. 20, 1766, in Kensington, England. In 1783, he was deputy organist at the church of St. George the Martyr in Bloomsbury. Among his known music efforts were a music dictionary and textbook and many part songs. He received a Doctor of Music degree from Oxford in 1800 and lectured at the Royal Institute of Music in 1807. In 1793, he was appointed organist at the Asylum for Female Orphans. He retired from his active musical career in 1809, due to mental strain, and died in Bristol, England, on May 15, 1821. |
