Donated to Marshall's Band by J.D. Parr of the Baker University band. Concert
notes on the folder:
A Carol Festival contains several familiar carols which men have sung for
years and centuries in adoration to the Christ Child. Included are:
Joy To The World
We Three Kings Of Orient
It Came Upon The Midnight Clear
O Little Town Of Bethlehem
Hark, The Herald Angels Sing
Silent Night
O Come, All Ye Faithful
Their messages of "O Come, Let Us Adore Him"; "Joy to the World" and "Peace on
Earth" tell the story of that night when angels sang of peace and played their
harps of gold.
These ageless songs are a part of every observance of the Christmas season.
This setting by Hawley Ades gives the Band an opportunity to find new meaning in
these inspired melodies and to celebrate anew through music both the majesty and
humility of the Babe of Bethlehem as well as the magnitude and grandeur of that
joyous occasion.
In addition to the playing by the Band these carols may also be sung by either
a chorus or audience or by both chorus and audience. Mr. Ades has thoughtfully
scored the carols in their customary keys so this additional dimension can be
employed to repeat the sounding joy and the members of the audience can lift
their voices in song and intone the glorious song of old.
