| Notes |
Composed in 1887. "The coquette referred to in the title of this miniature is a
maiden described in Longfellow's translation of an obscure German poem,
'Beware.' One slightly modified verse was often quoted in Sousa Band programs:
I know a maiden fair to see,
Take care! Take care!
She can both false and friendly be,
Beware! Beware!
"In 1901, this short dance was one of three pieces integrated into a suite
called 'Maidens Three'."
